UPDATE: Kaiden continues to be in remission! The port where he received his medications was finally removed and the Brennfoerder family had a joyous celebration of life and what the support of many can do. There continues to be NO sign of cancer!
UPDATE: After 8 months of aggressive treatement Kaiden is officially in remission! There is currently NO sign of cancer!
He begin the 6 month maintenance phase of chemotherapy in October, with oral mess given at home. He'll also have MRI scans every few weeks, as the highest chance for tumor recurrence is in the first year, but Kaiden is officially cancer-free!
On March 25th, 2.5 year old Kaiden was found by his mom Amy having a massive seizure. A golf ball sized tumor was found in the front left portion of his brain, and would need surgery. On March 29th, little Kaiden underwent brain surgery to remove the tumor that was found to be malignant.
Kaiden has a hard fight ahead of him. He had a Grade 4 Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumor (PNET), which is a nasty and aggressive one.
The good news is that it was caught relatively early, and that his post-op MRI looked clean. His age and overall great attitude will help him cope emotionally with the difficulties ahead.
Kaiden has now begun chemotherapy as he embarks on his fight for life. A port has been installed in his chest, under the skin, through which he receives all his chemotherapy treatments.
Since this all began, Kaiden has shown strength and courage throughout all the procedures he has had to undergo. He continues to be a vivacious little boy - playing, giggling, snuggling, climbing and making jokes all day long - with a hot wheels car clenched in each hand. He takes each day in stride, bringing joy and laughter and love to all those that meet him.Unfortunately, the next 4 months will be long and trying for Kaiden and his family. And this is just the beginning. As you can imagine, associated with Kaiden's treatment, are growing medical expenses.
